Finishing Up!

This is so bittersweet! My last post for wire106 and ds106 (hopefully not ds106)! This semester was so much fun and its all thanks to this class! Ds106 was my favorite class I’ve taken so far here at UMW and I’m really glad I decided to take it. I was on the fence over the summer and whether or not I should take it but I don’t regret that decision at all. I learned so much from this class and its helped me learn about what I potentially want to work with as a career. I can’t recommend this class enough!

This class was particularly special because it was an online class. Normally you would think an online class would just be you yourself and you. I think of an online class as sitting down in front of the computer for hours trying to understand the topic. That normally doesn’t work for me, I need hands on experience to learn a topic. I quickly found out that this class was anything but that! Between the weekly lunches, video discussions, and the group projects I quickly learned that this class was something special. I still had the face to face interaction that a traditional lecture class would have, but with no lecture! It was a great mix!

I think the assignments were the best part to the entire class, besides having to watch TV for homework. Although my stomach would drop at the beginning of the week when we all got the weekly emails with our quota for the week and I would be so overwhelmed at the beginning of the week, I really enjoyed them! I would always dread sitting down to plan them, but once I did I knocked them out all in one go. The beginning of the semester was a little rocky but once the semester was in full swing I got the hang of things and now I don’t think I’ll ever forget the skills I learned in ds106.

So as I’m writing this I feel like this:

The semester is almost over! That’s so exciting! But I also feel like this:

I don’t want this class to end! I just want to keep creating things and watching TV for homework! But I do realize that all great things must come to an end. Ds106 was a great chapter in my great novel of my life! So with that being said I don’t think this would be a weekly summary without showing you what I did this week! Take a look! And if you want to see what else I’ve done this semester check out my past weekly summaries at the end of this post.

My Favorite Assignment

Hiya! So for today’s Daily Create we were tasked with writing about our favorite assignment we did this semester:

My all time favorite assignment was the Swede it! It was a video assignment and we were tasked with recreating an episode from the Wire. We also got bonus points if we made it in a group. So I teamed up with my group from our radio show and we got right to it. We decided to recreate season 3 episode 11, which was a really pivital episode in the whole series. We made the choice to use teddy bears instead of using people, which I thought would add an awesome twist to it! So once we were done filming I sat down and edited the whole thing. I really enjoyed the editing process! I had a lot of fun with this and I think it turned out great! Here is the video:

This was definitely my favorite assignment!

Tremendous Amount of Daily Creates!

Here’s today’s daily create! It was definitely a milestone since it is the 1000th day. We were supposed to pick 3 different photos from different daily creates and either collage them or merge them together. There were a few options to pick from in the description, one from the 1st, 10th, or the 100th daily create. I decided to merge three different photos from the suggested daily creates. I took Sandy Brown Jensen’s photo from the first daily create (the picture of the shell). Then I found Jonas Backelin’s photo from the 10th daily create (The background photo). And finally I found Danielle’s photo from the 100th daily create (the crayons). I made Jonas’s picture as the background then I was going to crop out the background of the other two pictures and merge them into Jonas’s picture. Unfortunately I couldn’t do that in photoshop because I kept getting a message saying I couldn’t edit the pictures themselves. So I decided to leave them in the middle of the photo next to each other. I actually like how this turned out even though my original plan didn’t work out. I think its so cool that there have been 1000 daily creates in the ds106 community!

Swirling Water!

Hiya! Here is my daily create #1! I thought this was so cool when I saw that it was the daily create for the day! I did a little brainstorming before I went to film the final product. I wanted to be original in the way I figured it out. But with all of the brainstorming, I hadn’t come up with anything! Then I moved my water bottle so I could put my laptop on my desk. The water in my bottle started swirling around. Then it hit me! I could make my own “cyclone” with my water bottle. After a few tries, and some help from my friend, I was able to get the shot I wanted! I just filmed on my iPhone and then I just uploaded it straight to YouTube from my YouTube app! And here is the final project! Enjoy!

What is playing on my Radio?

Today, the Daily Create was to tune your radio to whatever 106 station there was on the radio. I totally didn’t realize that we were supposed to do that! But I was running errands today and I just decided to record whatever came on as soon as I turned on my car. So this is what was on! The song is called Don’t by Ed Sheeran. I kind of had a little chuckle when I heard that this was on because this song is one of my favorites off of his new album. Towards the end of the recording you can hear the radio stations bumper, which is B101.5! Here is the track in the Daily Create group on Sound Cloud! I’ve also uploaded it down below. Enjoy!

Early Morning Meal with My Cats

Today’s daily create was to take a picture of something that you used to do with a pet. Well, since I’m living in a dorm this year I can’t actually have a pet so I used an old photo that I took before I came back to school. I used to get up for the opening shift at the local pool I worked at over the summer around 6am. I would come downstairs to have breakfast and this was what I would walk into. Even though this was super cute, I had to shoo them off the chair so I could eat my breakfast. It literally became a game where they would try to jump back on the chair before I could sit down. I miss these guys!Crazy Cats
